Under his direction, the Humble Civic Center was chosen as one of the “Top Five Meeting Facilities in Houston” by The Houston Business Journal.

Below Scroggins shares his thoughts on the Humble Civic Center and Arena Complex and the meetings and events industry.

What do you feel is the most distinctive or unique feature of the Humble Civic Center? 
The most distinctive feature of The Humble Civic Center is its’ profile and landscaping. The Humble Civic Center and Arena Complex features lush greenery and unique architectural accents and is constantly being updated and modernized. The walls of windows in the lobbies make for a very warm and scenic visit.

What is the best thing about the Civic Center’s location?
The best thing about The Humble Civic Center and Arena Complex’s location is its proximity to Bush Intercontinental Airport.  Clients can fly in, conduct a major meeting and fly out again all in one day.  For extended meeting dates the client can enjoy the overnight stay amenities of all major hotel brands, world-class golf and fine dining without having to battle with downtown traffic and lack of parking.  I personally enjoy the fantastic golf courses we have in our area!

Describe the Humble Civic Center and Arena Complex experience?
Our guests can expect our staff to help them plan and execute their event in every way possible.  We will go out of our way to make sure you have what you need.  I have a very attentive and friendly staff that receives accolades from clients on a regular basis.

What unique amenities or services does the Humble Civic Center and Arena Complex offer clients?
It is a state-of-the-art facility that features 30,000 square feet of climate-controlled meeting and convention space, including three ball rooms, four meeting rooms and a 3,000 square foot special events room.  We have over 2,000 free, paved, well-lit parking spaces.  We also feature a full-service rodeo/expo arena that is perfect for large events, from rodeos to trade shows to concerts seating up to 7,500 people.  We feature the latest AV equipment, a full-service kitchen and fully carpeted ballrooms.  We are just 10 minutes from Bush Intercontinental Airport as well as over 3,000 hotel rooms, fine-dining and several world-class golf courses. 

What trends in the meeting planning industry have you seen lately?
The trend I’ve seen in the meeting planning industry is the meeting planner’s need to do more with less money.  That’s the reason we want to be a meeting planner’s “one-stop-shop”.  We can work on getting more for the meeting planner’s money by offering the lowest cost meeting space and the ability to negotiate on the meeting planner’s behalf for the best deal on food and beverage, as well as the best rates for hotel rooms.

You have described the Civic Center as a “one-stop-shop.”  Why is an inclusive facility preferable to dealing with individual vendors?
We believe a “one-stop-shop” facility is more preferable than dealing with individual vendors because we have to power to negotiate better rates on behave of the client because of the vendor’s desire to acquire referrals from our facility on a regular basis.

Describe any physical changes or improvements that have occurred or will be occurring in the near future? Any plans for expansion? The Humble Civic Center has just undergone complete remodeling of all the bathrooms in the facility.  The next project to be done is new carpet in all the ballrooms and special events areas.  There are also plans for digitally interactive informational and directional screens throughout the facility.  The Civic Arena has just undergone complete repainting and new cooling devices have been installed.

My goal as Director of the Humble Civic Center and Arena Complex is to personally see to it that every client’s needs are met and their expectations are exceeded every time they visit!
